There is a house ever: not all social media platforms are made equal, and what is great for one business might be disastrous for another. For instance, you wouldn’t sell construction equipment on a stand at a children’s toy store? It is the same with social media channels. With 4.8 billion users in the digital world, social media impacts almost everyone’s lives.
Know Your Audience Like Your Best Friend
Understanding your audience is like being a detective - you need to know how to advertise your business on social media, what they love, & where they spend their time online. The biggest mistake businesses make in the beginning is assuming they know their customers without doing proper research. Marketing social media platform you have suggested to your friend. Your gut feeling might tell you that your customers are on Facebook, but what if they're actually scrolling through TikTok during their lunch breaks or networking on LinkedIn after work hours? But now it is banned in India.
1. Know Who Your Talking To
This one is super important but also the most skipped. You gotta know who your audience is. Are you targeting 40-year-old moms or teens who are obsessed with skincare?
If you don’t know this, then honestly, what are you even doing in digital marketing tips.
Tip: Make a quick profile of your "dream" customer. Like, what's their age, what do they do, where do they scroll at 11PM?
Ex: A photography business might kill it on Insta but struggle on LinkedIn where people are just looking for jobs and motivational posts.
2. Understand Each Platform is Different
All social media isn’t created equal. They all got their own "vibe", kinda like how YouTube is diff from TikTok, even though both use video.
Instagram – All about visuals. Pics, reels, stories. Looks matter here.You can handle your social media in business on this platform.

LinkedIn – Very serious. Great for B2B or professionals. Jobs for marketing.

3. Don’t Be Everywhere (You’ll Burn Out)
This one’s real. A lot of small brands advertise your business on social media, try to be on all platforms at once and then end up posting once a month and getting zero likes. It’s not worth it.
Pick like, 2 tops. Get really good at those. Focus is underrated.
Personal note: I tried doing Insta, LinkedIn, and TikTok all at once for my clothing brand. I died. Stick to one or two unless you have a whole team.
4. What Are You Trying To Even Do?
Sounds obvious, but... what’s your goal?
Want people to know your brand exists? → Try IG or TikTok

Just wanna blog and share thoughts? → Twitter or LinkedIn
Pick the platform that helps with that goal. Don’t pick one just cuz it’s popular. That’s how ppl end up posting dancing videos for a bakery that sells bread to old people lol.
5. Stalk Your Competitors (In a Chill Way)
Not to copy them – but to learn. See where they post, what gets likes, what people comment on. You can find inspo or even better, find a gap they're not using.
Maybe your rivals ignore Pinterest and boom, that’s your chance to shine there.
6. Just Try Stuff & Learn
This part’s underrated. Don’t overthink it too much. Post stuff, track how it does, and adjust. You’re not gonna go viral in week one and that’s fine.
9. Trends = Meh (Sometimes)
Yeah, trendy sounds = more views. But also… trends die fast.
Remember the Harlem Shake? No? Exactly.
Better to post stuff that’s helpful, fun, or just YOU. That builds an audience that stays.
10. How Much Time You Got?
Posting everyday on 3 platforms sounds cool until you're 2 weeks in and just... done.
